Friends brought the Idole e Olena Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata 2015 to lunch today. It is the second time I have tasted the wine from western Chianti this year – once in a tasting, this time to accompany our steak Fiorentina.
The 2015 vintage is a blend of90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, plus a dash of Petit Verdot and Merlot, and is 40% in new wood for 24 months.
I enjoyed the wine with the meat better today than last time in a Cabernet comparison, although I found the alcohol in the finish a touch too noticeable. Nevertheless, an excellent Cabernet:
Fresh and savoury with lots of cassis, blackberry, cherry, plus tomato leaf, tobacco leaf, earth, espresso notes and leather. The tannins are still firm but just right to accompany the steak. Excellent length.
