The United Colours of Wine Summit in Alto Adige – 258 wines to taste. Although I didn’t manage to try all of them, here are some highlights of the day:
Weissburgunder Riserva Renaissance 2018 by Markus Prackwieser – elegant fruit with great focus and length. Delicate and complex on the nose and palate.
Chardonnay Vigna Au Riserva 2019 by Tiefenbrunner – very refined aroma with white peach, pear and flowers. Well-integrated wood, lovely creamyness and lots of depth.
Also brilliant from Tiefenbrunner is the Müller-Thurgau Feldmarschall von Fenne 2020 – Fresh with a well-crafted phenolic that provides structure and grip on the palate. Grapefruit, lemon, delicate grapey notes and some spice in the finish.
Sylvaner Eisacktal Riserva Alte Reben 2019 by Pacher Hof – superb, dense, salty, long.
Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir) Schweizer 2018 by Franz Haas – elegant fruit definition, silky, fine-grained tannins, lovely mineral finish. Excellent.
Lagrein Riserva 2016 Klosteranger by Muri-Gries. Dark in the glass, blackberries, blueberries, liquorice, some meat and dark earth. Fine tannin, extremely long on the palate.
