Re-energizing and celebrating the upcoming Xmas week with another interesting sparkling wine. The Reichsrat von Buhl Suez 2015 is a beautiful example of a profound Riesling Sekt. The wine was released after 40-month maturation in 2019 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Suez channel. Buhl has also delivered wine to the original opening of the waterway in 1869.
The 2015 Suez is a brut nature style made from organically grown Riesling grapes. The base wine is fermented in Inox and in 500 l tonneaux. The second fermentation took place in bottles with 40 months on lees.
After opening the bottle and letting the wine breath for a while, the result is fascinating. Lime, peach and a touch of passion fruit with some dried flowers on the nose and palate. Brioche and toasted bread add to its complexity. Fine effervescence of the bubbles and a superb length. Great effort of Mathieu Kauffmann who has left the estate since then. I love this wine even more than the Buhl Reserve Brut which I have reviewed some weeks ago.
