Covid & Cote Rotie

While I am recovering from Covid, I am thinking back to some wonderful bottles which I have tasted recently. Among them was the 2006 La Landonne from René Rostaing. Certainly, it is not one of the greatest vintages of the small winery from Ampuis. Nevertheless, I was particularly pleased by the freshness, the flow and the elegant ripeness of this Syrah, which give it an almost Pinot-like character. In the aroma and taste, wild berries, dark and red cherries, olive paste, pepper, smoked, undergrowth and herbs. The wine is carried by a fresh, animating acidity and rounded tannins. It also shows a very solid length. This wine really demands a spicy accompaniment – roasted lamb in a herb coating, for example.
