Coleraine 2000

After a week of little sleep, lots of work and long journeys, this wine was one of the highlights: The Te Mata Coleraine 2000. I had included the blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc in a workshop at the Belgrade Wine Salon.

Since 1989, Coleraine has been a blend of the estate’s best sites on the Havelock Hills in Hawke’s Bay. The 2000 vintage bottle presented itself at its peak on that day: on the nose and palate delicate cassis, dried figs, plums, leaves, tobacco, red pepper with a good dose of tomato shrub, juniper and green pepper.

The tannins are very present, albeit smoothed by maturity. The finish is mineral and fresh. Delightful.
